A parliamentary sub-committee has summoned former chief adviser to the caretaker government Fakhruddin Ahmed and former army chief Moeen U Ahmed to testify in the army-student clash case of 2007, reports bdnews24.com.
Committee chief Rashed Khan Menon told the news
agency on Tuesday that the duo was asked to appear at a meeting of the committee scheduled for April 18.
"The parliament secretariat was asked to send letters to this effect to the cabinet division and the armed forces division," Menon added.
Following the February 27 deposition of then Chief of Staff Lt Gen Sina Ibn Jamali and Directorate General of Forces Intelligence Rajshahi division chief, the sub-committee took the decision to hear the statements of Fakhruddin and Moeen.
The parliamentary standing committee on education ministry on August 19 last year formed the four-member sub-committee to look into the alleged attacks during the military-installed caretaker government.
Menon was made the chairman of the enquiry panel while Mirza Azam, Biren Sikder and Mohammad Shah Alam were named as members.
Students and teachers brought out protest rally on Aug 20 2007 after an altercation between a student of the university and an army man at the university playground.
The agitation spilled onto other education centres all over the country and continued for two more days.
