JS poll was well accepted, transparent

Says Election Commissioner

Election Commissioner Begum Rasheda Sultana has said as the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) polls, held on January 7, was transparent, it was welcomed by all parties, reports BSS.
"The 12th parliamentary election was held accordingly and impartially, and it has taken the Election Commission to a new height. The Election Commission will not move away from this position, rather the Commission will be in a more transparent and strong position in any future elections," she said during a view-exchange meeting at the Naogaon District Commissioner's conference room on Sunday.
The meeting was held to exchange views with the contesting candidates, returning officers, assistant returning officers and law enforcement officers, ahead of the upcoming election of Naogaon-2 (Patnitala-Dhamoirhat) constituency.
"The commission should be trustworthy to the people to keep the democratic infrastructure of a country stable. From that point, the current Election Commission is working with the utmost impartiality and integrity," she added.
"It is not possible for the Election Commission alone to make the election acceptable, fair and transparent. All concerned have their own responsibility to ensure a free, fair and peaceful election," the Election Commissioner said.
Election Commissioner Brig General (Retd) Md Ahsan Habib Khan has underscored the need of smart identification card (NID) for providing citizens services.
"Necessary digital information of country's citizen would be preserved to smart NID. It will be needed of each citizen for any services from birth to die and information about the concern citizen from the NID," he said this while inaugurating the smart NID distribution activities at Fultala Re-union Model School and College in Khulna on Sunday.
The smart NID card will play vital role in building smart Bangladesh by 2041, he said.
Database of a smart card has been prepared of a secured citizen with his 10 finger prints and reflection of iris of his or her eyes, he added.
"The smart card is being distributed for expatriates including Saudi Arabia, America and United Arab Emirates. It will also be distributed among the expatriate of more 11 countries accordingly and separate NID will be prepared for our great Freedom Fighters," he said.
Project Director of the IDEA (second phase) Brig General Abul Hasnat Sayem, regional election officer of Khulna Md Humayun Kabir and superintendent of police addressed as special guests with deputy commissioner of Khulna Khondokar Yasir Arefin chaired the event. District election officer Farazi Benzir Ahmed delivered the welcome speech.
A total of 2,920 citizens will get smart card respectively at Fultala upazila.
