JS session begins today: BNP won't join

Sunday, 5 December 2010

Main opposition BNP will not join the parliament session that begins today (Sunday), the party's front ranking leader Moudud Ahmed MP said Saturday, reports UNB.
The ninth parliament will go into its seventh session at 4.0pm today. The last session was prorogued on October 6.
Replying to a question BNP standing committee member Moudud said it is beyond the question to join the parliament as it is now not a respectful place and that the court is doing the job of parliament.
Asked about speculation of an en masse resignation by BNP lawmakers, he said many of the party MPs have opined there is no necessity to go to parliament but the matter has not been discussed in the standing committee, the party's highest policymaking body.
Former Law Minister Moudud said a reprint of the constitution bypassing the parliament will be unconstitutional.
He said it is the task of the parliament to amend the constitution and make laws while judiciary can give opinions or explanations.
He said the rights of opposition lawmakers have been curbed.
BNP and its allies Jamaat-e-Islami and BJP had boycotted most of the parliament sessions except two or three since the ninth parliament started its journey on January 25, 2009.
Finally BNP joined the last budget session for a single day to raise protest the closure of the Daily Amar Desh and arresting its acting Editor Mahmudur Rahman.
