JS session resumes today

The third session of the 9th Jatiya Sangsad will be resumed at 4 pm today (Sunday) after an 18-day recess for the vacations of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr and the Durga Puja, reports BSS.
The third session, which began on September 7, was adjourned on September 15 ahead of the biggest festivals of the Muslims and the Hindus.
Three government bills were passed and seven bills, including three private members bills, placed on the seven working days of the third session.
The three bills passed in the House were the Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge Authority (Amendment) Bill-2009, the Local Government (Pourasabha) Bill-2009 and the Pesticides (Amendment) Bill-2009.
The four government bills placed in the House were the Mobile Court Bill-2009, the Real Estate Development and Management Bill-2009, the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (Amendment) Bill-2009, the Local Government (Union Parishad) Bill-2009 and the Jute (Amendment) Bill-2009.
Besides, two private members' bills tabled in the House were the Prevention of Eviction of the Slum Dwellers from the Land Bill-2009 and the Repression and Death in Custody (Prevention) Bill-2009.
Moreover, some bills including the Insurance Bill-2009 and the Insurance Control Bill-2009, which were piloted in the previous sessions, are under the consideration of parliament.
Meanwhile, the joining of the main opposition BNP in parliament remains uncertain, as it is yet to take any decision on the issue despite repeated calls from Speaker Abdul Hamid as well as the treasury bench.
BNP has been boycotting parliament since the budget session for various demands.
