JS Speaker meets Indian Lok Sabha Speaker

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury met Indian Lok Sabha Speaker of India Meira Kumar in New Delhi on Wednesday evening. During the meeting, they stressed the need for increasing mutual cooperation between the parliaments of two countries, said a press release of Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat on Thursday. Meira Kumar assured the Bangladesh Speaker that India will provide all-out support to Bangladesh in strengthening parliamentary activities. “As a neighboring country, India always gives importance to Bangladesh and it wants to see Bangladesh as a prosperous and politically stable country,” she said. The Lok Sabha Speaker expressed gratitude to the Bangladesh government for awarding the Indian nationals and institutions for their contributions to the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971. “This recognition will help strengthen relations between Bangladesh and India,” she said. Shirin Sharmin said Bangladesh always gives emphasis on developing bilateral relations with Indian. Bangladesh High Commissioner in New Delhi Tariq A Karim was present, according to a news agency.
