JSC, JDC exams rescheduled further

The Junior School Certificate (JSC) and equivalent examinations slated for Wednesday and Thursday have been rescheduled due to another spell of hartal called by Jamaat-e-Islami. Exams scheduled for Nov 5 will be held on Nov 19, the Education Ministry said in a statement released on Monday. Tests slated for Nov 6 will take place on Nov 20, it added. The decision came at an emergency meeting on Monday chaired by Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid. This is the 2nd instance of deferring this year's JSC, Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) and equivalent exams due to back to back general strikes, called by Jamaat in protest of war crimes verdict against its leaders. The exams for Nov 2 and 3 were earlier shifted to Nov 7 and Nov 14 as it coincided with Jamat's hartal protesting its chief Matiur Rahman Nizami’s death sentence by International Crimes Tribunal-1. The education minister stated that Wednesday's English 1st paper exam of the JSC examinees will be held on Nov 19 while their Thursday's English 2nd paper exam will be held on Nov 20. Besides, the JDC examinees' Arabic 1st paper exam will be held on Nov 19 while their Arabic 2nd paper test will be held on Nov 20. Jamaat-e-Islami today (Monday) called another round of 24-hour hartal for Wednesday (Nov 5) protesting the verdict of the Supreme Court that upheld the capital punishment of its leader M Kamaruzzaman which had earlier been awarded by the International Crimes Tribunal-2. Earlier, replying to a question, the minister said that the JSC candidates were to appear for the English 1st paper while JDC aspirants for Arabic 1st paper exams on Nov 2. He confirmed on Monday, these tests will now be held on Nov 19, from 10:00am. The English 2nd paper and Arabic 2nd paper exams for JDC candidates, which were scheduled to be held on Nov 6, will take place on Nov 20, he reconfirmed.
