JSD leader shot dead, AL leader injured

Miscreants shot to death a local leader of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) and injured an Awami League leader in Mirpur upazila in Kushtia district on Monday, the first day of Bangali New Year. The deceased was identified as Imsail Hossain Panjer, 56, former vice-president of Mirpur upazila unit of Jasad while the injured is Shafiqul Islam, 50, general secretary of Ward-9 unit AL under Poradah union. Mitul, son of the deceased, said a gang of three miscreants riding a motorbike opened fire on Panjer and Shafiqul around 7am while they were taking tea at a shop at Ahmedpur Bazar after had their morning walk, leaving them critically injured in bullets. They were rushed to Kushtia General Hospital where doctors declared Panjer dead. Contacted, additional police super of Kushtia Sohel Reza admitted the incident, according to a news agency.
