Bangladesh business leaders proposed India to form a joint group in the private sector of two countries, report agencies.
Newly elected FBCCI President Abdul Matlub Ahmed along with other business leaders made the request to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi when they met him at Hotel Sonargaon Sunday afternoon.
The Bangladesh-India Joint Private Sector Working Group will further ease Indian investment to Bangladesh and boost Bangladesh exports to the neighbouring country, Ahmed said.
He briefed the reporters after the meeting that lasted for around 15 minutes from 3:40 pm.
Matlub Ahmed said the deals, including agreements and MoUs, that have been signed between Bangladesh and India would take the trade and commerce relationship to a newer height.
"Through the signing of these agreements and instruments, initiatives are there to reduce the BD-India trade gap as well as boosting exports from Bangladesh to India," he added.
The FBCCI president said the Bangladeshi businesses also demanded 50 acres of land in India for making investment in the RMG sector.
"We welcome you," said Abdul Matlub Ahmed quoting the Indian Prime Minister.
Ahmad said the deals initiated by Modi would usher in a new era in bilateral trade and business.
The FBCCI president said they congratulated the Indian Prime Minister on behalf of Bangladesh's businesses.
Modi tweeted a picture of the meeting saying it was a "comprehensive meeting on India-Bangladesh economic ties".
BGMEA President M Atiqul Islam, FBCCI 1st Vice President Md Shafiul Islam, DCCI President Md Hossain Khaled, MCCI President Syed Nasim Manzur and CCCI President Mahbubul Alam were, among others, present.
