A violent clash between supporters of the president and the general secretary of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at Jahangirnagar University (JU) has left seven students injured, reports bdnews24.com.
Witnesses said the two factions got into a fight at noon on Sunday even while admission tests were underway. Five gunshots were heard amid the chaos.
The seven injured men have been rushed to hospital. Among them Nehal Shahriar, a Geography student of the 41st batch, has sustained bullet wounds.
Over 50 policemen were present there led by Savar Circle ASP Russel Sheikh. They fired shotguns to contain the situation.
BCL activists of MH Hall began pitched battles with fellow members at Salam-Barkat Hall over the money extracted from various temporary shops set up on campus during entry exams.
General Secretary Rajib Ahmed then led supporters from Salam-Barkat to MH Hall. The group he led was throwing brickbats inside the hall.
Another group, loyal to BCL president Mahmudur Rahman Johny, was hurling pieces of wood and brick from inside the hall.
Ironically, the university has received its first female Vice-Chancellor Farzana Islam amid the chaos.
