JU BCL leader expelled

Jahangirnagar University (JU) has expelled a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on charge of assaulting a teacher. Mamun Khan had attacked the university’s Urban and Regional Planning Department chairman, Associate Professor Golam Mainuddin. Mamun is a student of the department and the Publications Secretary of JU unit BCL. Prof Mainuddin alleged that Mamun assaulted him on the ground floor of Social Science building on Thursday afternoon. Urban and Regional Planning Dept is in the 3rd floor of the building. Later at night, a meeting of the varsity disciplinary committee chaired by acting vice chancellor MA Matin took the decision to temporarily rusticate Mamun. Committee member Bangla Department teacher Sazzad Sumon said the meeting also took two other decisions. Mamun has been asked to explain in 48 hours why he should not be expelled from JU permanently. Also the authorities have decided to file a case against him. Earlier, JU unit BCL president Mahmudur Rahman said the university authorities should hand Mamun Khan exemplary punishment, according to bdnews24.com.
