The authorities of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Sunday strongly condemned recent remarks made by Jamaat-e-Islami leader Amir Hamza regarding what he said he had witnessed at the university.
The authorities, in a press release, described Hamza's claims about being admitted into the university, students using alcohol in residential halls, and students assaulting the university's teachers -- as "false, baseless and fabricated."
Clarifying the matter, the administration pointed out that the Department of Journalism and Media Studies at JU was established in 2011, with its first batch of undergraduate students enrolled in the academic year 2011-12. "Therefore, the claim that he was admitted to the department is false," it added.
