JU ends an eventful 2011

The outgoing calendar year saw the premature deaths of three students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) in different incidents.
Marzia Jannat Sumi, a student of History department, committed suicide following rejection of her marriage proposal by a teacher of Botany department for who she had grown a weakness.
Rafiqul Islam Ratan of Government and Politics department and Bennai Liyan Bom of Archaeology department died in separate road accidents.
A JU teacher was picked up by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel for alleged involvement in selling fake MBBS admission test question papers. He was eventually set free by a High Court order.
Recently, JU Vice-Chancellor Dr Shariff Enamul Kabir suspended the elections to the JU Journalists' Association scheduled for January 6, 2012.
