JU expels 3 for life for ragging

The authorities expelled three female students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Wednesday night on charge of assaulting another female student in the name of ragging. The expulsion order came from an emergency meeting of the JU syndicate at night. The expelled students are Shammi Rezwana, Sabrina Akter Nitu and Rafia, honours 2nd year students of the Marketing Department. Sources said the trio assaulted the victim, Momtaz Begum Antara, a 1st year student of honours coarse of the same department, on July 18 as she did not turn up at their room the day before following their call. Earlier on Tuesday, Board of Residence and Students Disciplinary Committee at a meeting recommended expulsion of the three students. Professor Farid Ahmed, provost of Sheikh Hasina Hall, said the university administration would take legal actions against the three female students for their alleged involvement in the unwanted incident, according to a news agency.
