Wednesday, 11 January 2012

Three students were expelled for life from Jahangirnagar University (JU) Tuesday for their alleged involvement in killing of Jubayer Ahmed, a 4th year English Department student, reports UNB.
The expellees are Khandakar Ashiqul Islam and Khan Mohammad Rais, both 4th year students of Zoology Department and Rashedul Islam, Philosophy 4th year student. They are also activists of the varsity unit BCL (Bangladesh Chhatra League).
Of the trio Ashiqul Islam was arrested Monday morning on charge of killing co-BCL activist Jubayer.
Earlier, the trio was suspended from JU for 1 year after their involvement in the murder was proved in preliminary investigation.
Vice chancellor Prof Dr Sharif Enamul Kabir said that the decision to increase their punishment from 1-year suspension to lifetime expulsion came at an emergency Syndicate meeting following further review and assessment of investigation reports submitted by a six-member inquiry committee formed by the varsity authority Sunday.
