JU freshers' in-person classes to start Feb 1

JU CORRESPONDENT | Friday, 19 January 2024

Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities backed off from its decision to offer online classes amid protests by freshers.
In-person academic activities for first-year Bachelor (Honours) students for the academic year 2022-2023 will commence on February 1.
Two days after boycott of 'online' classes by freshers, the decision to start in- person classes was informed in a notification to the authority on Thursday.
The notification, signed by Syed Muhammad Ali Reza, Deputy Registrar (Academic) and Member Secretary of the Central Admission Management Committee, said that the dormitories would be allocated to the students for the academic year 2022-2023 on January 31st.
The allotment details will be published on the university admission website, bachelor.ju-admission.org. Once the notification is issued, students must report, if allotted, and move to their respective halls.
On the same day, progressive teachers and students organized a human chain, calling for the proper allocation of valid seats to freshers in the dormitories and the expulsion of students with unauthorized residency.
On January 16, the fresh students of the 52nd batch (2022-2023 sessions) boycotted online classes, urging an immediate commencement of in-person classes.
Due to an accommodation crisis, the university authorities decided to start 'online' classes instead of 'in person' classes for the new batch starting on November 30, after six months of the admission test.
