JU gets first female VC

The President has appointed Professor Farzana Islam as Vice Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University (JU). She is the first woman to hold the top post at a public university in Bangladesh. Islam, a teacher of the university’s Department of Anthropology, has been appointed for the next four years. President Md Abdul Hamid chose her from the VC panel of the university’s senate. An order from the education Ministry on Sunday also relieved acting VC Prof MA Matin of his duties.
