JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Apr 12: Four new departments along with two faculties are to be launched at the Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus in the upcoming academic session, Vice Chancellor of the university Professor Dr Shariff Enamul Kabir said. The four departments are Media Studies, Law, Public Health Management and Fine Arts, he added. Professor Shariff told this while addressing an orientation programme at the Fazilatunnesa Hall of JU Wednesday as the chief guest. Presided by the Provost of the hall Professor Ausit Baran Paul, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the university Professor Dr Mohammad Muniruzzaman and Professor Dr Mohammad Farhad Hossain attended the programme among others. Library in limbo Another message adds: Multifarious problems have crippled the library facilities of around 12 thousand students and about five hundred teachers of Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus. Sources said the central library of the campus has no sufficient number of books and necessary journals for the students and researchers. Incomplete two-storied building of the library contains only 150 seats which cannot accommodate sufficient number of students and teachers to study here. The problems are being intensified as the university is increasing the number of departments without increasing library facilities, students said. The dilapidated library building has remained incomplete for 23 years without proper rooms, office and space for toilets for thousands of readers and researchers.
