JU student with disability assaulted

Some students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) have beaten up a physically challenged student of the physics department for protesting against ragging. The victim is Ashraful Islam, a 3rd year student of the department. He has been admitted to Savar's Enam Medical College Hospital. Assistant Proctor Shikdar Mohammad Julkarnaine said Ashraf had a brawl with 2nd year physics student Kawsar Ahmed Ovi as the latter had been ragging a 1st year student of the department several days ago. Kawsar and several of his accomplices beat up Ashraf with sticks and iron rods finding him alone in front of the new building of Arts Faculty on Thursday evening,’ Julkarnine said. Proctor Tapan Kumar said he had asked Ashraf's friends to file a written complaint. 'We'll take actions against the accused based on the complaint,' he said. 'Ashraf has been admitted to Enam Medical College Hospital as he sustained severe injuries,' JU's assistant medical officer Dr Touhid Hasan Shah Chowdhury said, according to a news agency.
