JU suspends eight students over ragging allegations

The authorities of Jahangirnagar University (JU) have temporarily suspended eight students of the Department of Physics over allegations of ragging first-year students.
The decision was announced in an office order signed by Acting Registrar Dr ATM Azizur Rahman on Tuesday.
According to the order, the alleged incident occurred between 10:00pm on July 20 and 1:00am on July 21, when several students of the department's 54th batch (academic session 2024-25) allegedly ragged newly admitted students of the 55th batch (academic session 2025-26) near Sher-e-Bangla A K Fazlul Huq Hall, locally known as Monpura.
The accused students allegedly used abusive language and forced the newcomers to hold their ears and perform repeated sit-ups, acts that constitute ragging.
Following the allegations, the university administration took disciplinary action against the accused under Section 4(1)(B) of the JU Students' Discipline Ordinance, 2018.
The suspended students are Md Fazle Hasan Fahad, Md Al-Amin Hossain, Md Jahid Hasan, Md Faisal Ahmed, Md Mahmudul Hasan Khan Akib, Md Mahmudul Amin Siam, Md Mostafizur Rahman, and Syed Sakib Ahmed Ratul.
