JU teachers protest notice on colleague

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Apr 19: Protesting show cause notice on a columnist and teacher of Jahangirnagar University (JU), the general teachers formed a human chain on the administrative building premises. Sources said Anwarullah Bhuiya, associate professor in Philosophy department wrote a column on "Condition of Higher Education" in the Daily Jugantor on April 3, which criticized the administration of the university. Regarding the matter the authority of the varsity served a show cause notice within 7 days to explain why the teacher will not be punished according to the disciplinary rule of the university. JU authority charged that the teacher has violated the article 44 of University Act of 1973. A memorandum protesting the action has been submitted to the Registrar signed by 54 teachers following a silent procession in the campus.
