JU teachers protest plan for building Tipaimukh Dam

JU Correspondent Nationalists Teachers Forum of Jahangirnagar University (JU) protested the Indian move to build the controversial Tipaimukh dam on the river Borak saying that it will adversely affect 30 million people and their livelihoods in the country. In a statement signed by around 86 teachers of JU said, no decision regarding Tipaimukh Dam should be made that would put the national interest in question. The Forum members said that desertification would set in what is now a vast Surma-Kushiyara-Meghna basin if India builds the dam on the river Borak. They called upon all Bangladeshis to rise in protests against the controversial Tipaimukh dam. Among others the statement was signed by Prof Khandaker Mustahidur Rahman, Prof Enamul Haque Khan, Prof Md Abdul Malek, Prof A K M Golam Hossen, Prof Shabuddin Kabir Chawdhury, Prof Kazi Abdus Salam, Prof Razia Sultana, Prof Md Mojibur Rahman, Prof Nurul Islam, Prof Munjur Elahi, Prof Dr Md Shariff Uddin and others.
