Juba League leader shot dead

Some miscreants shot to death a Juba League (JL) leader in Sonaimuri Upazila in Noakhali district on Saturday night. The deceased was identified as Arif Hossain, 30, joint secretary of the JL in Amishaparha Union under the Upazila. Party sources said a gang of miscreants, equipped with firearms, waylaid Arif Hossain around 11:00pm when he was returning home on a motorcycle through Kalikapur-Amishapara road. They mercilessly beat him and at one stage shot him from close quarters, leaving him injured. Locals rescued him and took him to Sonaipuri Upazila Health Complex but he was declared dead by doctors when brought in, according to a news agency.
