Jubo Dal activist shot dead in city, four held

A Jubo Dal activist was shot dead and two others injured after unidentified assailants opened fire on them in the capital's Kafrul area on Friday night (July 24).
The deceased was identified as Youssuf Ali (45).
According to Kafrul Police Station and local sources, the gun attack took place at around 11:40pm in front of the main gate of Sher-e-Bangla Government Primary School in Mirpur-13 under Kafrul police station.
The unidentified assailants (numbering between 4 and 5) opened fire on Youssuf Ali along with others.
After the incident, Youssuf Ali was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the attending doctor declared him dead at around 12: 40 am (Saturday).
Local people caught Chanchal Molla with firearms and handed over him to  police after giving mass beating.
Later Chanchal revealed names of Jihad Molla, Md Ziarul, Hasan and others to police who were allegedly involved with the incident of shooting.
A case was filed against Chanchal, Jihad Molla, Md Ziarul, Hasan and others with the Kafrul Police Station by the family members of Youssuf Ali.
The injured are Hafizur Rahman, member secretary of the Kafrul Thana unit of Jubo Dal, and Nalam Sardar.
Both were undergoing treatment at the emergency department of DMCH.
Deceased Youssuf Ali hailed from Sakral village under Barishal's Wazirpur upazila. He was a resident of Mirpur-13.
Sujan, a BNP activist and resident of Mirpur-13, said that he and seven to eight others, including Hafizur Rahman, had been chatting in the area since around 11:30pm when four to five armed men suddenly appeared and opened fire on them.
'Hafizur was hit by two bullets, while Yusuf was shot in the chest,' he said.
The detective branch (DB) police have arrested three more individuals, apart from Chanchal for their alleged involvement in the killing.
Officer-in-charge of Kafrul Police Station Saiful Islam told the media that deceased Jubo Dal leader Youssuf Ali's family members filed a case.
He said professional shooters were involved in the firing.
Later on Saturday Chanchal Molla was produced before a court that granted him three days' remand.
