Jubo Dal, Shibir men ‘killed’ as ‘blockade’ drags on

A Jubo Dal activist and a Shibir activist were allegedly killed by the law-enforcers on Wednesday, as the 20-party alliance's non-stop countrywide blockade passed its 65th day along with 48-hour shutdown amid stray incidents of arson, blasts and arrests.
A Jubo Dal activist, who sustained bullet injuries during a 'gunfight' with police on Lakshmipur-Ramgati road at Char Lawrence Berarganj in Kamalnagar upazila under Lakshmipur on March 2, died at NITOR (Pongu Hospital) in the capital on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Arif Hossain, a resident of Charkalkini village of the same upazila.
On March 2, a team of police challenged a group of BNP and Jamaat-Shibir men in the area at around 1:00am, said Nasim Miah, Lakshmipur assistant superintendent of police.
In a separate incident, police allegedly made a Shibir man crushed under a truck on the Hatikamrul-Banpara Highway in Sirajganj at around 12.30 pm on Wednesday.  
The deceased was identified as Mohsin Ali, 30, son of Saheb Ali of Dattakusha village of Nalka union under Salanga upazila.
Another Shibir activist, Hafizur Rahman, 25, was also injured in the incident. He was admitted to Shakhawat Hossain Memorial Hospital in Sirajganj.
OC of Salanga Police Station Rezaul Haque said they were hit by a truck while trying to flee away seeing police.  
But Saheb Ali, father of Mohsin Ali, said his son was picked up by police, and later crushed under truck.
Sources at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) said police brought to the hospital two Shibir activists - Sabuj Ali, a student of Binodpur Islamia College, and Shovan, a student of Ramchandrapur BM Technical College - with bullet injuries in night.
