Jubo Dal to stage countywide demo today
Tuesday, 18 March 2014
Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, youth wing of BNP, will stage demonstrations across the country today (Tuesday) protesting the hike in power tariffs and jailing of top BNP leaders, reports UNB.
The programme is also meant for mounting pressure on the government to release the arrested BNP and Jubo Dal leaders, including BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain and Mirza Abbas and withdrawal of 'false' cases filed against Jubo Dal men, including its president Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal and general secretary Saiful Alam Nirob, said a press release.
The decision to hold the programme was taken at an emergency meeting of Jubo Dal.
The demonstrations will be held in all the cities and district towns throughout the country.
On Thursday, the government raised the power tariffs by 6.96 per cent on average at consumer levels with effect from the billing month of March 1.
On the other hand, a Dhaka court Sunday sent BNP standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain to jail rejecting his bail prayer in a money laundering case.
Another Dhaka court on the day sent Mirza Fakhrul, Mirza Abbas and BNP Dhaka City member secretary Abdus Salam to jail rejecting their bail petitions in three cases.
