Family claims he was killed

CHATTOGRAM, June 24: A Jubo League leader died in Chattogram Central Jail on Wednesday, a day after being arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of police in Satkania upazila.
The victim, Nurul Alam, was joint convener of Dhemsha union unit of Jubo League in Satkania upazila of Chattogram.
Senior Jail Superintendent of Chattogram Central Jail Md Iqbal Hossain said, "Nurul Alam was sent to jail on Tuesday afternoon after being arrested in a case. Upon arrival at the jail, he fell ill. When his condition deteriorated on Wednesday morning, he was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead."
The family members of the victim alleged that the arrest was not politically motivated and claimed it was orchestrated by a local group over business-related disputes.
They further alleged that he was tortured by members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police during his detention.
The family also claimed that no case was pending against him and said several attempts were made on his life in the past. They demanded a fair and impartial investigation into what they described as a 'killing.'
