Judge withdrawn for ordering to register case against RAB

Friday, 6 June 2014

A Brahmanbaria judge has been withdrawn a day after she ordered police to register a murder case against RAB personnel. It means, Senior Judicial Magistrate Najmun Nahar will not be able to decide whether a case or charge-sheet will be accepted until further notice. The decision has been taken ‘for the people’s sake’, said the withdrawal order signed by the district’s Chief Judicial magistrate, Mostak Ahmed Sahdani. Najmun Nahar on Wednesday instructed police to lodge a case against nine RAB personnel, including RAB-14 Bhairab camp commander Major AZM Sakib Siddiki, over the murder of local businessman Shahnur Alam. The victim’s brother, Mehedi Hasan, filed a petition before the court on June 1 claiming his brother had been killed by RAB-14 personnel. He alleged that RAB had detained and murdered Alam on April 29, according to bdnews24.com.
