Judges, lawyers urged to help enforce PIL

Saturday, 19 April 2014

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Saturday urged the judges and lawyers to help enforce the public interest litigation (PIL) to establish the constitutional rights of people in the country. She made the plea while delivering her speech at the Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar auditorium at a seminar titled ‘Role of public interest litigation and its importance on establishing rights’. Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh organised the programme and accorded a reception to lawyer Mahesh Chandra Mehta for his contributions. Dr Shirin said the PIL should not be limited only to saving the environment and biodiversity. She said that all people have the right to get the remedy if there is any violation of basic rights and public interest, according to a news agency.
