Judicial probe into CG's unconstitutional acts demanded
Tuesday, 21 July 2009
A group of pro-BNP lawyers Monday demanded formation of a probe committee led by a senior judge of the Supreme Court to probe the 'unconstitutional acts' of the immediate past military-backed caretaker government and bring those behind-the-scene rulers to justice, reports UNB.
The demand came three days after the opening of Pandora's Box by Justice SK Sinha over the two-year emergency regime.
In an impromptu press briefing on the corridor of SCBA Building, Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon, MP of BNP expressed concern over the July 16 remarks by just-elevated judge of the Appellate Division SK Sinha.
Justice SK Sinha revealed that the controversial military-backed caretaker rulers had made an attempt to run the apex court with its control, casting aside the constitution and even tried to remove him unconstitutionally.
Barrister Khokon said they were shocked that responsible quarters of the present government, including the Ministry of Law, had remained silent following such 'alarming remarks' by Justice Sinha.
Khokon, also a counsel for BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, said there should be a proper inquiry by the present democratic government for the sake of upholding the constitution and restoring the image of the highest judiciary.
