Judicial probe into JU student Jubayer murder demanded

Former students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) Friday at a human chain demanded immediate formation of a judiciary committee to probe into Jubayer killing and ensure fair trial of the killers.
They also demanded fair trial of all eight killings that had so far occurred in JU's forty years' history.
Claiming that the JU administration has totally failed to protect students' lives the former students also demanded removal of the present administration including vice-chancellor Dr Shariff Enamul Kabir, proctor Prof Dr Arzu Mian and security in charge Md Azim.
The human chain was organised by 'Jahangirnagar University former students against killing and terror' a platform of the former students involved in various professions in and outside the capital.
Imu Hasan (JU 30 Batch Student) coordinated the post human chain protest where representatives of JU former students, present students, teachers and many cultural and political organisations spoke.
The platform demanded stern action against those involved in Jubayer killing and ensure education-friendly safe atmosphere on all campuses.
Arko, a friend of Jubayer at JU (Batch 37) said, "If the culprits involved in Jubayer-killing are punished, it would encourage them in committing more crimes as well as more killings."
Faruk Wasif, journalist and columnist, Shashanko Ray, journalist, Faisal Rahman, journalist, Md Abdul Momin Molla, researcher, Najmul Hasan Santo, among others spoke at the human chain.
Associate Prof at Dhaka University English Department and former student and teacher at JU English Department Dr Samsad Mortuza Suman, Associate Professor at Department of Anthropology of JU Nasrin Khandoker, Secretary General of Bangladesh Communist Party Mujahidul Islam Selim, among others, expressed their solidarity.
Meanwhile, Jahangirnagar University (JU) sacked its security officer Friday in the face of the ongoing protests of teachers and students after the killing of a student last week, reports bdnews24.com
"In line with the university authorities' order in the morning, Mohammad Azim Uddin has been relieved of his duties," registrar Abu Bakar Siddiqui told the news agency.
On the evening of Jan 8, Zubayer Ahmed, a student of the Department of English, was critically wounded following beating and stabbing by a Bangladesh Chhatra League faction reportedly backed by vice-chancellor Shariff Enamul Kabir on the campus in Savar. He died the following day at a private hospital in Dhaka from excessive loss of blood.
The university has rusticated three students - all BCL activists - for their alleged involvement in the killing while police have made two arrests over the cold-blooded murder.
