Judiciary working to uphold spirit of Constitution: CJ
FE REPORT | Friday, 1 April 2022
Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique has said the judiciary is constantly working for upholding the spirit of the country's Constitution and for ensuring justice.
The CJ said this while addressing inauguration of a high-rise building named Bijoy Ekattor on the premises of Bangladesh Supreme Court in the city on Thursday.
"The judges are trying their best with their honesty, talent and hard work to reduce the case backlog and to send the distressed justice-seeking people back home from the court premises as soon as possible," he said.
"I have instructed every judge and other officials to treat everyone humanely. Taking advantage of the plight of the people on the court premises will never be tolerated," he added.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the 12-storey modern building joining virtually from her official residence Ganobhaban.
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq and Attorney General Abu Mohammad Amin Uddin also spoke on the occasion.
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Secretary Md Golam Sarwar gave the welcome address.
Former Chief Justices, justices of the Supreme Court and eminent lawyers, were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the Prime Minister, the CJ also said, "You know, bar and bench are the two wings of a bird. A strong bar is essential for a strong judiciary. The current number of the lawyers in Bangladesh Supreme Court is 9,302. It is almost impossible to accommodate them in the bar buildings we have now."
