Sukhmani- Hope of Life is a story based on the Journey of Major Kuldeep Singh, played by Gurdas Maan, a decorated officer of the Para Battalion, who overcomes personal trauma and social indignity to uphold the morals of the army and the honour of a woman rejected by society and family, while keeping alive the memory of his beloved daughter Sukhmani.
Commenting on his role in the film Gurdas Maan said, "Sukhmani is a very special film to me in many ways starting from the film marking debut of my wife as a director to my hat trick with Juhi Chawla. This film is made in the memory of my two dear friends Manoj and Suraj whom I have lost. I hope people will like the film and its plot."
According to the makers of the film, Sukhmani shows that both good and evil lie within each man, however when faced with exceptional circumstances each acts differently. It shows that sometimes an individual has to make choices that are not always accepted by society.
