Juicy summer fruits start pouring in in city markets

Saturday, 23 April 2011

Delicious summer fruits, both local and foreign varieties, have started pouring in in the city markets and roadside outlets though many of those are very costly for the ordinary buyers, reports UNB. Indian mangoes that look fresh and fabulous in colour are being sold at Tk 100-140 a kilogramme (kg), while the local varieties of mango may hit the fruit-corners by the end of May or early June. However, local green mangoes are being sold in the markets at Tk 40 to Tk 60 per kg. People are mostly buying green mangoes to prepare mango-pickles. The persisting hot weather although insists people to look for juicy fruits like watermelon, cantaloupe, wood-apple, pineapple and papaya, higher prices of the fruits sometimes disappoint the common people.
