July memorial set on fire in Pirojpur, two police officers withdrawn

A memorial monument built for the martyrs of the July-August student movement in Pirojpur has been set on fire, report agencies.
The July Memorial monument located in the Shaheed Minar premises in the district town was set on fire in the early hours of Saturday. A part of the monument has turned black.
Soon after the incident, two policemen patrolling the area were withdrawn to the police lines, said district police Superintendent Khan Muhammad Abu Naser.
He said the arson case is being processed at Pirojpur Sadar Police Station and will be thoroughly investigated, with the strictest legal action taken against those involved.
The two withdrawn policemen will also face legal action, he added.
Students and members of the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami have demanded justice in the incident.
