July uprising victim families welcome death sentences
FE REPORT | Tuesday, 18 November 2025
Families of those killed and injured in the July uprising have welcomed the death sentences handed down to deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, describing the ruling as a long-overdue step toward justice.
They also called on the government to ensure the verdict is executed without any delay.
Speaking to reporters outside the courtroom of International Crimes Tribunal-1, the relatives expressed a blend of relief and lingering frustration as they reacted to the judgment.
In his reaction, Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho, the twin brother of July martyr Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdho, said the martyr families agreed with the death sentences for Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal but rejected Mamun's verdict.
"We will appeal to the higher court. He must receive at least life imprisonment," he told the reporters on the ICT premises. He said that delivering a verdict is not enough; the government must also clarify how it intends to bring back Hasina and Kamal.
Salman Hossain, also an injured in the July revolution, called for the swift execution of the verdict, bringing Hasina and Asaduzzaman back to Bangladesh from India.
