Tuesday, 6 June 2023

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday set June 14 for hearing a contempt of court case filed against Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, reports UNB.
Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division M. Enayetur Rahim set the date after hearing a petition in this regard.
A full bench led by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique will hold the hearing on June 14 as per the order.
Convener of ad hoc committee of Supreme Court Lawyers Association advocate Mohsin Rashid, Senior Counsels AJ Mohammad Ali and Joynul Abedin, among others, stood for the petitioner while Attorney General Amin Uddin and Supreme Court Bar President Momtaz Uddin Fakir represented defendant Taposh.
Earlier on Sunday, advocate Shah Ahmed Badal, member secretary of ad hoc committee formed after an alleged one-sided election by the pro-Awami League lawyers in the bar council election, filed the case at the concerned section of the Appellate Division bringing allegation of contempt of court against Taposh.
A directive to summon the mayor Taposh for his 'derogatory remark' was also sought in the case.
On May 21 this year, Barrister Taposh at a meeting of the Bangabandhu Awami Lawyers Council in the capital said, ''brought down a chief justice''.
