JU’s 40th Senate meeting today

The 40th Senate meeting of Jahangirnagar University (JU) will be held today (Saturday) sans 12 senate members in various categories including student representatives. The annual senate session will start at 3 pm in the senate hall of the old registrar building of the university.
Since the University Central Students Union (JUCSU) of the university is not active for more than 30 years, the student representatives are unable to participate in this senate session. As the polls of the elected representatives of Registered Graduates and teachers are not conducted for years, the session of the highest policy-making forum of the university is going to be held with the expired board. There are 54 elected representatives of registered graduates and teachers in the senate whose term has expired long ago.
According to Section 19(1) of the University's Act 1973, the members of the Senate are the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (one or more), Treasurer, five government officials nominated by the government, five Members of Parliament nominated by the Speaker, five educationists nominated by the Chancellor, five representatives of research bodies nominated by the Syndicate, five college principals nominated by the Academic Council, Chairman of Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka, 25 elected representatives from the registered graduates, 33 elected representatives among the teachers and five students elected by the Central Student Council of the University.
