Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST) has suspended a teacher following allegation of rape. University spokesman Hayatuzzaman Mukul said that a suspension letter had been sent to Syed Mahfuz Al Hasan, a teacher in the food and nutrition department, on Saturday afternoon because of the alleged sexual abuse. Mukul said the authorities had started an investigation after the victim filed a written complaint against the teacher on March 10 this year. The vice-chancellor had ordered the suspension, as preliminary investigations had proved the rape charge, Mukul said. According to the complaint, the teacher developed an affair with the student living in a rented house at Palbari in Jessore. He allegedly had a sex with the student on February 16, but later refused to marry her, prompting the student to file the complaint, according to bdnews24.com.
