Justice established thru\\\' verdict: Turin Afroz
Wednesday, 29 July 2015
Prosecutor Barrister Turin Afroz said justice has been established through the Supreme Court judgment that upheld the international crimes tribunal’s verdict of Salauddin Qauder Chowdhury’s death penalty as he indiscriminately killed members of minority community and inhumanly tortured people in 1971. “Through trial of these crimes today it is proved that Bangladesh is a secular state,” commented the noted lawyer in an instant reaction after the Appellate Division’s verdict. The SC on Wednesday upheld the death penalty to former minister and BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury for committing crimes against humanity during Bangladesh’s independence struggles in 1971. The 4-member SC bench, led by Chief Justice SK Sinha started reading out the final verdict around 9:00am, rejecting his appeal against the ICT-1 verdict. In a reaction after the judgment, Barrister Turin said SQC blasted the tribunal several times. He claimed himself as lawmaker with arrogance. This verdict proved the truth the fact that none is above the law, according to a news agency.
