Jute cultivation continues in Mymensingh

MYMENSINGH, Apr 30 (BSS): Jute farmers of the district are showing keen interest to cultivate jute during the current season.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has fixed a target to cultivate jute on 10,000 hectares of land with the production target of 91,000 bales in all the 12 upazilas of the district.
Local variety of jute is being cultivated on 7,800 hectares of land. Besides Tusha variety on 1,202 hectares, Kanaf variety on 980 hectares and Mesta variety on 196 hectares are now under cultivation.
DAE sources said 60 percent of the cultivation has been completed and rest of the work would be completed by the last week of the current month Baishakh.
To make the programme successful, BADC distributed quality seeds among the jute farmers through their selected dealers. Besides, the government has provided fertilisers and necessary agricultural inputs to help the farmers.
