Jute cultivation gaining momentum in Bogra

BOGRA, July 4: The farmers and officials concerned of Bogra district including its vast Barind area are expecting a satisfactory production of golden cash crop jute in this season if the climate condition remains favourable.
The cash crop is now growing well everywhere in the district as the farmers are rearing the cropland for getting huge amount of money from the land.
Deputy Director of Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Chandi Das said, "The department has set a target of bringing around 65,000 hectares of land in 12 upazilas of the districts during the current season but the farmers cultivated the crop on 70,000 hectares of land." Besides, the DAE and many NGOs have taken adequate steps to succeed the programme in this season.
A farmer Golam Rabbany son of Lutfor Rahman Boronarayonpur village under Sibgonj upazila said, "The department has arranged a day long training workshop on Ufshi jute in the presence of marginal farmers recently."  
Beneficiary farmer of DAE Lokman Hossain Palpara village of Kahalu upazila said, "The agriculture departments and NGOs have provided quality seeds, necessary agri inputs and trainings on the latest technologies to make the programme successful."
The landless and marginal farmers have also brought vast tracts of the sandy char lands in Sonatola, Sariakandi, Gabtoly and Shibgonj upazila under jute cultivation everywhere in the district. DAE officials said, "This district has immense prospects to achieve self- reliance in golden cash crop jute productions."
"Farmers of the district always produce huge surplus quantities of rice, potato, maize, vegetables and they should explore tremendous potentialities to increase production of jute through proper crop diversification and land management" they added.  
A farmer Rahim of Vatal village under Dupchanchia upazila said, "I have brought. 40 acres of land under jute cultivation spending Tk 5000 and I expect Tk 10,000 as profit from the crop land if the weather condition remain favorable."    emdadul2015@gmail.com
