Jute production exceeds target in Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI, Oct 01: The cultivation and production of jute of both Tossa and local varieties exceeded the target this year, the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said.
DAE sources said the jute cultivation target of the district was in 11,659 hectares of land but was cultivated in 13,560 hectares of land. The cultivation of local variety was in 1,495 hectares of land but cultivated in 1,650 hectares while the target of Tossa variety was in 10,164 hectares of land but cultivated in 11,910 hectares.
On the other hand, the jute production of both Tossa and local varieties exceeded the target as 139,325 bales of jute have been produced against the target of 124,293 bales. The production target of local variety was 12,489 bales but 13,545 bales were produced, while Tossa variety produced 125,780 bales against the target of 111,804 bales.
