Jute production hampered for load shedding

KHULNA, Mar 13: Seven state owned jute mills of Khulna region failed to meet their production target per month due to frequently load shedding in this area. The production was fixed at 21,529 tonnes in these mills but they produced only 18,300 tonnes during the production month and the production was shortage 3,229 metric tonnes. Of them 913 tonnes of production shortage was only for load shedding. The jute mills were facing 516 hours load shedding for last three months. Sources said that various initiatives have been taken by the present government to accelerate and dynamse these seven jute mills. For this reason to increase the production of the mills the BJMC declared the month of production from December, January and February. Source said total 18,300 metric tonnes jute goods were produced in Platinum, Star, Eastern, Alim, JJI and Carpeting jute mills during this period of declared months. Of them 6,241 tonnes were produced against the target of 7,177 tonnes and load shedding was 132 hours in December and the production was hampered by 243 tonnes. Mujibor Rahman Mollik, head of the project of the Crescent Jute mill apprehends that productions may be further affected if the load shedding is increased in the upcoming dry season.
