Kader Siddiqui out of by-poll contest
Tuesday, 25 March 2014
The High Court has dismissed a petition by Kader Siddiqui challenging a decision of the Election Commission (EC) on cancellation of his candidature for Tangail-8 by election. The bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Zafar Ahmed issued the order on Tuesday. The EC on March 2 rejected an appeal by the chief of Krishak Sramik Janata League, challenging the commission’s decision to cancel his candidature on charges of loan default. The Tangail-8 constituency (Basail-Sakhipur) fell vacant after Awami League MP Shawkat Momen Shahjahan died of heart attack on January 20. His son Anupam Shahjahan is the Awami League aspirant in the polls scheduled for Mar 29, according to bdnews24.com.
