KAMPS starts journey

KAMPS (Kidney Awareness, Monitoring and Prevention Society), the country's first kidney screening and research centre, was inaugurated in the city Sunday, said a press release.
From now on, anyone can get service from this centre with a discounted charge and can also consult doctors free of charge.
On the eve of the inaugural session, a seminar on 'The Epidemic Prevalence of Kidney Disease and Its Prevention' was also organised by KAMPS.
TV session was presided by Prof Dr MA Samad, the chairman of KAMPS.
Dr MA Samad, in his speech, said of the alarming situation of kidney disease in Bangladesh.
He said about 20 million people have been suffering from some form of kidney diseases in Bangladesh. And about 40000 people are dying from kidney failure every year.
The cost of treatment of kidney failure is so expensive that hardly 5.0 per cent of people can afford such costly treatment. As a result, about 95 per cent of people die without proper treatment, he added.
In the situation, Dr Samad stressed the need for making awareness of kidney disease among people of all walks of life to prevent the disease at the very early stage.
