The state-run Karmasangsthan Bank (KB) has created some 102,580 employments in nine months (July-March) of the current fiscal year (2010-2011), reflecting a 16 per cent increase over those of the corresponding period of the last fiscal, a high official of the Bank said. During the first nine months of the last fiscal a total of 85,423 people were employed, the official said. Besides, the disbursement of loan through this specialised bank has also increased by 60.62 per cent in the first nine months of current fiscal over that of the previous fiscal, the official also said. In the same period of the last fiscal the amount of credit disbursed was Tk 1,674.4 million whereas in the current fiscal it stood at Tk 2,280.6 million, statistics showed. According to the statistics, credit recipients in the current fiscal have increased by 16 per cent. In the first nine months of the last fiscal 23,663 people took credit but in the same period of the current fiscal the number of credit recipients was 28,416. In the first nine months of the last fiscal Tk 1,098.4 million was realised whereas Tk 1,530.6 million has been realised during the same period of the current fiscal, registering a 28 per cent growth, the official said. The outstanding credit of KB was Tk 2,990.8 million in the last fiscal but in the current fiscal it stood at Tk 4,027.0 million, he said. The bank had 115 branches in first nine months of the last fiscal whereas at the end of nine months of the current fiscal the total branches stood at 205, the official also said. Managing Director of KB Nurul Huda Choudhury told the FE that 100 more branches will be set up across the country by the end of 2011 to fill up the target of the bank. Mr Choudhury said the present government is trying to make this bank one like Grameen Bank adding that KB is charging 8 to 10 per cent interest and this shows that its rate is lower than that of any other bank. "We have also recently started implementing a cluster basis credit programme under an approach system from where the clients can get loan within a short period," Mr Choudhury said. If loan recovery and employment generation prove satisfactory in future, we will increase credit disbursement, Mr Choudhury said. Mr Choudhury said KB is now emphasising increasing manpower because opening branches is impossible without recruiting manpower and the bank has already finalised the recruitment process of 324 officials.
