Karnaphuli EPZ shoe factory catches fire

A fire has broken out at a shoe factory at Karnaphuli Export Processing Zone in the outskirts of Chittagong city. The fire started around 1pm on Saturday, said Jasim Uddin, deputy assistant director at Chittagong Fire Service Station. Three firefighting units were fighting to control the blaze, he said. He could not provide details of how it started or the losses suffered. Earlier, 15 shops were gutted in another fire in Mariam Nagar market at Rangunia Upazila in Chittagong district around 1.15am on Saturday, said Agrabad Fire Service Station control room operator Shahidur Rahman. However, no casualties were reported. Fire fighters estimated losses at Tk 1.2 million. It was controlled after two hours, according to bdnews24.com.
