Karnaphuli tunnel work from Jan: Quader

Friday, 27 June 2014

Communications Minister Obaidul Quader has said the construction work of the tunnel under the Karnaphuli River will begin in January next year. ‘The 3.5-kilometre-long (km) tunnel will be built at a cost of Tk 90 billion,’ he said after visiting the naval sea beach area, the possible construction site, in Patenga in Chittagong on Friday morning. It will be built on a ‘Government-to-Government’ basis, Quader said, hoping the project would be completed by 2018. He said the tunnel would be connected to the proposed Asian highway and to Dhaka-Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway. Quader said the facility would immensely benefit the port city, according to bdnews24.com.
