KAS Murshid new BIDS DG

Dr K A S Murshid will lead the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) as new director general (DG). He will replace incumbent DG Dr Mustafa K Mujeri with effect from April 1, 2015.
The Board of Trustees of the institute, in a meeting on Thursday, has decided to appoint Dr Murshid as new DG for next three years. His tenure may be extended for another three years.
Minister for planning AHM Mostafa Kamal, also the chairman of the board, has presided over the meeting.
For formal approval, now the name of the new DG will be forwarded to Prime Minister Office, as the institute is an autonomous public multi-disciplinary organisation.
In the meeting, a short-list of four candidates was presented. The list was prepared by a search committee headed by M Syeduzzaman, a former finance minister of Bangladesh. Two other members are: Dr. Mahabub Hossain, a former DG of BIDS, and the incumbent DG of the institute. The list had four names including Dr Murshid who has served the institute for long and go to retirement as research director.
Three others were: Dr Zaid Bakht, also former BIDS research director and now chairman of Agrani Bank, Dr. Binayak Sen, a research director of BIDS, and Dr. Atiqur Rahman who worked at the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), a United Nations lending agency for agricultural and rural development. He, however, served BIDS for a long period, nearly 20 years, from the time of the Institutes' creation till mid 1989.
BIDS conducts policy-oriented research on development issues facing Bangladesh as well as other developing countries.
