Kazi Nazrul Islam University opens its portals

THE vivid and colourful curriculum opening ceremony of Jatiyo Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University, Trishal, Mymensing, was held in June 3, 2007 at the campus of the newly established university.
It was very colorful and attractive. Many female students wore colorful sharis and adorned their hair with flowers.
It started at 11am. When vice- chancellor, Dr. Asraf siddiqui, teachers, journalists, upazilla executive officers, local people come to the seminar room then the students greeted them with flowers and flattering words.
The teachers of Bangla department presided very well over the ceremony.
Students were informed about rules and regulations, use of library etc.
'It is an amazing and colorful orientation. I have never seen any programme of this type. I feel proud,' says Rubayed, a student of English Language and Literature.
'We want a campus free of politics. It is very essential and necessary that we need a library that can give us reading and research facility' says Jibon, a student of Computer science and Engineering. He continued to say: 'We need a mosque on urgent basis.'
Dr. M. Shamsur Raham, the vice- chancellor of the university, greeted the new and first year students of this university. 'You are so lucky and the best students in my university. You should be so proud and happy that you are students of the Nazrul University and you can follow the values, knowledge, thoughts, views, emotions, logic, consciences of rebel and national poet Nazrul. You have to research and practice on Nazrul. You have come from various places of the country and you must value your time here.'
The VC also said that Nazrul University is the smallest in the country. The university is spread over only 20 acres land. He says that small is beautiful. He appreciated and thanked those who donated their land and thus helped the establishing of the university.
Students' hostels are now under construction. The VC asked the students to be patient up to two months to get seats in the halls.
Dr. Asraf siddiqui, a famous folk researcher and president of Nazrul Education Trust who made a huge and magnificent contribution to establish the university, graced the occassion. He said: 'you have to establish Nazrul's ideals and conscience in your mind and soul. You do not come only to receive the certificates but also you have to come to achieve refined and sophisticated character and morality from this historical university'. He wished to be buried in the campus after he dies.
The programme ended with the song 'tora sob joi dhoni kor, tora sob joi dhoni kor'.
